Vinyasa yoga aligns a deliberate sequence of poses with the breath to achieve a continuous flow.  These classes keep you moving, flowing continuously in a graceful dance that is a well-planned vinyasa sequence.  In Sanskrit, vinyasa means “to place in a special way”. Each position compliments those that proceed and follow, building heat, endurance, flexibility, strength and mental focus.



All levels class of moderate to high intensity, with options for modifications given throughout to go deeper or to take less.  An understanding of asana (yoga poses) is helpful, as the pace will pick up to one breath per movement.  


VINYASA FREEDOM FLOW encourages you to connect with your own practice.  Connecting to how your body feels in this moment, noticing how you emotionally came into your practice and honouring what your soul may need as you connect with your authenticity in each movement.  This is a vibrant, uplifting, energetic class where you are offered the freedom to explore different movements and ideas surrounded by incredible music and an encouraging atmosphere, completing the practice with a blissful final relaxation.


VINYASA PEACEFUL FLOW will lead you to cleanse the body and calm the mind within a tranquil atmosphere.  Sequencing and cues will challenge your strength and encourage you to find stillness within your spirit. Find balance between movement and stillness, power and restoration, peaceful music and demanding poses.  You will challenge your body and be inspired with guided intentions as you move toward a blissful final relaxation.


VINYASA POWER FLOW is an invigorating, energetic and powerful class.  Physically challenging, yet accessible sequences, enhancing stamina while simultaneously relieving stress and tension. Strengthen the body and focus the mind as you work through sun salutations toward peak poses, giving you access to what’s possible both in your practice and in your life. This class is taught without music, encouraging you to bring your focus within.  Class ends with a blissful final relaxation.

NOON FLOW gives you the chance to reset midday with a medium intensity flow that won’t get you too sweaty before you return to work.  Take a healthy break to move your body and breathe.




Starting anything new can be a little bit intimidating, and yoga is no exception.  We embrace and work hard to facilitate new beginnings here, making every effort to make this process as comfortable for our students as we possibly can.  If you have been considering trying yoga, or getting back on your mat to give it another try, then this is the class for you.


The yoga practice in this class will slowly guide you to explore the needs and limitations of your body, teaching yoga poses at a very slow and gentle pace.  We spend the time in this class to really break postures down and to help you find where a pose can feel amazing for you. All of the students attending this class are new to yoga, just like you, with many of the same questions or feelings.  This is an opportunity to start a new journey, a new beginning. Together, we will hold and share a space of no judgment or comparison, but rather, acceptance and compassion.


YOGA UNWIND: Unwind from the day in mind, body and spirit.  With some gentle movement restorative postures, and relaxing breath work, you can begin your evening with a sense of peace.


Calm your mind, relax your body, restore your soul with this healing yoga practice.  We will begin this class with meditation and breath work, transitioning slowly into a very, very gentle flow mixed with many restorative postures which we will hold for longer and enjoy settling into.  We will finish our class with either a yoga meditation or a short Yoga Nidra practice, to fully relax you into a beautiful and peaceful savasana.


You can expect an energizing 45 mins, sure to have your core engaged and working hard. We will work through a series of low impact core exercises sure to challenge you and change with each class. This practice will be barefoot on your yoga mat, our familiar territory.


Happy hips, happy heart. We will focus this class on working with the mobility, strength and flexibility of our hips flowing through an energetic Vinyasa, and ending with a Yin practice focused on the hips.  Sometimes dynamic, sometimes deep, often challenging and always enriching.  Let’s keep our hips flowing, healthy and happy! 


Yin Yang classes blend two styles of yoga into one practice. Classes will instruct both a slow, deep, introspective and quiet yin yoga where poses are passively held for longer. This works to target the deep, dense, connective tissues of the body, such as the ligaments, bones and joints. In contrast, we will also explore more energizing and heated yang practice, as we combine breath and movement together, working on the muscles and blood flow, building strength and stamina. For a balanced yoga practice, we need both Yin and Yang elements. Yin Yang yoga helps to harmonize and center us, especially when we’re feeling unbalanced or pulled in multiple directions.


Restorative Slow Flow is a conscious body/mind relaxation practice. Guided through gentle, passive poses to ease the body into relaxation, releasing tension and stress. Restorative poses offer benefits to both the body and mind. Students will hold a small number of relaxing poses for extended periods of time to enjoy some deep meditative time and stress relief. You are welcome to bring your own bolster, pillow or blanket to increase comfort- but props are not required.




Beginnings Yoga Studio is the only studio in Cape Breton offering the incredible experience of Yoga Nidra.  Yoga Nidra is a form of guided meditation also known as “yogic sleep” or “effortless relaxation”. It’s practiced lying down with a teacher guiding the session. The practice draws our attention inwards, and we learn to surf between the states of wakefulness and sleep, where our body finds its natural state of equilibrium– the breath balances and becomes quiet, unconscious and conscious aspects of the mind reveal themselves, and we fall into an innate state of deep, blissful awareness.


Anyone can practice Yoga Nidra, but it has immense appeal for those who struggle to let go (I think many of us have ‘battled’ through meditation at times!). It also has immense value for those suffering from sleep deprivation, trauma, anxiety or depression (to any degree). It’s also perfect for those who have always been curious about the deep states of meditation they have perhaps read about or stumbled across themselves but have never been able to recreate.




Gentle flow classes are sweet, calming practices for anyone looking for a gentle alternative to our stronger vinyasa flow classes.  Each position compliments those that proceed and follow, building endurance, flexibility, strength and mental focus while balancing the class with stillness and restorative poses too.  


All levels class of moderate intensity, with options for modifications given throughout to go deeper or keep it mellow.  Perfect for beginners looking for a slower-paced class as they gain a foundational understanding of the poses or for intermediate and advanced students looking to slow it down.




Give your body the rejuvenation and healing it needs in a passive and relaxing yin yoga class.  The postures in this class are mainly taken in a sitting or lying position with the support of props.  Holding poses for a longer time encourages connective tissue to feel more elastic, giving you an expansive feeling and increased range of motion. With the help of gravity, you’re able to reach through to underlying tension and facilitate the balancing of your internal systems.  Modifications will be offered to help guide you into the right posture for what your body needs.


All levels class of low intensity. Beginners are welcome. 




Let go of your daily stressors and challenges while strengthening awareness as you create harmony between the mind, body and spirit.  In this hatha chakra flow you will explore the connection to breath with movement and find balance within the chakra energy centres.  Improve your physical strength, mindfulness and flexibility in a safe, relaxing atmosphere. This class will be an all levels class of medium intensity.




Hatha Yoga uses asanas (physical postures), pranayama (breathing techniques) and dyana (meditation) to guide students with intention to a clear and peaceful mind. Instruction concentrates on both physical health and mental well being, with an emphasis on repetition, simplicity and ease of movement. You will be guided to move in and out of poses slowly with a strong focus on safe alignment and breath. Hatha Yoga will help you to find more comfort and ease within your practice, with classes designed to strengthen and stretch the body, promoting both balance and flexibility. Find the opportunity to explore each pose and alignment in depth, with opportunity for one on one guidance.


All levels class of moderate to high intensity, with options for modifications given throughout to go deeper or keep it gentle. Postures are held for longer, making this class more challenging from a strength perspective for some.



Chair Yoga is one of the gentlest forms of yoga available. It brings the best of a yoga practice to those who require or prefer the support of a chair. Our classes guide you through gentle movement and breathing techniques with the support of a chair. This gives you the opportunity to feel the many benefits of yoga without having to get up and down from the floor. Our Chair Yoga class helps students stay healthy, vibrant and confident through stretching, strength development and balancing (beside or behind the chair for support). Chair Yoga classes help to maintain mobility, improve flexibility, cultivate mindfulness and increase body awareness.




Beginnings Yoga Studio’s Prenatal Yoga classes are designed to help mothers and babies stay healthy throughout pregnancy. Classes and postures are planned to help strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, keep the body flexible, alleviate many common discomforts of pregnancy, while finding focus through balance and the breath.


Pregnancy is a transitional time physically and emotionally, and Prenatal Yoga is about honouring these changes in ourselves and our body while connecting to our baby. Prenatal Yoga is a great way to connect with your body, your baby, and other mothers-to-be. Having the same group over the course of a program helps establish friendships that go far beyond birth.




Postnatal Yoga is a wonderful way to begin safely strengthening, stretching, taking care of the body and mind following pregnancy and labour, and provides a safe space for new parents to connect and find community. Nursing, bottle feeding, diapering, crying, laughing, and everything else that comes with the territory of babies is welcome and expected.


Our program is for new parents of 2-9 month old babies. Given that we are needing to follow strict protocols to keep our members healthy and safe during COVID-19, we ask that only pre-crawling babies attend. Parents who are post-partum are recommended to receive clearance from their health care provider for exercise before participating. No experience required to join this class.
